Overview
Atmospheric Water Harvesting (AWH) is emerging as a transformative solution to global water challenges, addressing needs ranging from humanitarian relief and household drinking water supplies to industrial, medical, and military applications. By producing high-quality water directly from the atmosphere, AWH can provide reliable water supplies anywhere and at any time without dependence on surface water, groundwater, pipelines, or other conventional infrastructure.
Recent breakthroughs in materials science, thermodynamics, and integrated process engineering are accelerating AWH deployment and demonstrating its potential as a scalable, economically viable new water source. AWH can serve as a standalone solution or as a valuable component of a diversified water portfolio.
Building on the momentum and insights generated through the previous three summits, the 4th International Atmospheric Water Harvesting Summit will advance the AWH Roadmap by exploring emerging technologies and systems, reviewing progress from pilot and commercial deployments, examining policy and regulatory developments, identifying pathways to lower costs, and developing innovative financing models. Together, these efforts support the vision of achieving more than 1 billion m³ of installed AWH capacity worldwide.
The theme this year is Chasing the Limit: Producing More Water, Better Water, with Less Energy. This builds upon our prior action-oriented themes for the field:
The 4th AWH International Summit will be held February 3-4, 2027, with a half-day overlap on February 4 with the Direct Air Capture (DAC) Workshop, which continues on February 4-5. Significant synergies exist between atmospheric water harvesting and carbon dioxide capture, including shared materials, process innovations, and opportunities to utilize abundant renewable atmospheric resources. The joint programming will create a unique forum for collaboration across these rapidly advancing fields.
